PHŌS CHURCH exists to reflect the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. So that those who were not told about Him will see and those who have not heard will understand

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””- John 8:12.

At PHŌS CHURCH our prayerful desire is to be a collection of light bearers who reflect and bear witness to both the truth and beauty of the Light of Life.

In Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus said:

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[a] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Much of the world is unaware of the darkness that exists in us all apart from Christ (Ephesians 5:8) and that surrounds each of us everyday.

That is because darkness masquerades itself as light (2 Corinthians 11:14). This “light” appears right, it looks true. But instead of giving true light for us to see, it veils our vision, distracts our focus and distorts our perception of reality, leading us down a deadly and destructive path.

We, as a church, are burdened to share His light with those who are unaware of His saving help. Too few understand where they are, too few know where they are going and too many are alone and lost. Our aim at PHŌS CHURCH then, by the power and work of the Spirit, is for people to see the light and believe in the light.

Jesus is the source and measure of all that is true. Jesus is life. His life is the light of all mankind and the darkness has not and will never overcome Him (John 1:4-5).

He alone embodies all that we know spiritual light is and does. He is “the way” and shows us the way to go. He is “the truth” and reveals the truth of our spiritual condition and surroundings. And He is “the life” and gives us life, the light from which we derive our very life (John 14:6). Jesus is the “radiance of the glory of God” (Hebrews 1:3). He is the “true light” of this world, and He will be the true light of the world to come (Revelation 21:23).

In John 1:6-9, we read that “There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.”

Lord, would You embolden us to testify to and bear witness to Your light, reflecting the radiance of Your glory. Would Your Name be hallowed and Your will be done in Downtown, Los Angeles as it is in Heaven. Would You open the eyes and hearts of the people You have called us to reach so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in You (Acts 26:16-18) and would You enable us to be a church who walks in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called (Ephesians 4:1). In Jesus Name, Amen.

“For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light”
